Chiron To Provide Free Cybersecurity Skills Assessments
COLUMBIA, Md. (PRWEB) February 21, 2018 – Chiron Technology Services, Inc., a leading provider of cybersecurity services and training solutions to government and commercial clients, announced today that it will launch an online Cyber Core Operations knowledge and skills assessment. This will provide aspiring information operations professionals with a personalized analysis of their competencies in the areas of Windows, *nix, traffic analysis, and scripting. These core areas are a critical foundation to the success of developing professionals in cybersecurity careers. Through an initial corporate social responsibility initiative, anyone can take the assessment for free.
“Too often a single certification or single area of technical focus limits the professional. In some cases, it provides a false sense of ability which potentially discourages individuals from pursuing a career in information operations and perceived as too complex when introduced to a high functioning security operations team,” stated Chad Carroll, Chiron Partner and Chief Strategy Officer. “…Our goal is to break down those barriers and introduce professionals, career changers, and interested individuals an opportunity to measure their knowledge and skills in a private and affordable session.”
Carroll Continued, “While we are proud of our team’s success in developing thousands of information operators in the United States Department of Defense, we are keenly aware of the critical shortage of info-sec professionals globally. We are a company that is passionate about supporting the information security profession. Our experience in developing and mentoring thousands of security operators aligned with the organizational needs of our customers, provides Chiron a holistic approach to the knowledge, skills and abilities we build into our training requirements. Chiron to Host Cybersecurity Skills Challenge and Training Session at Bsides Augusta
- Approximately 600 Cyber Professionals Expected to Participate in Capture the Flag Challenge that Tests Skills via Live-Fire Scenarios –
- Chiron Instructors to Lead Education Session on Post-Exploitation Operations
Columbia, MD – September 9, 2015 – Chiron Technology Services, Inc., a leading cybersecurity firm providing government and commercial clients with customized training and cybersecurity services to prevent, detect and respond to cyber-attacks, will host a Capture the Flag (CTF) Challenge at BSides Augusta on Sept. 12. Nearly 600 cybersecurity professionals and enthusiasts are expected to test their skills throughout the conference on the campus of Georgia Regents University in Augusta, Ga. In addition to hosting the CTF, Chiron will serve as a Gold Sponsor and two of its veteran instructors, Andrew Cole and Rich Moulton, will lead a seminar on post-exploitation operations.
CTF Challenges are popular among cybersecurity professionals and enthusiasts worldwide looking for ways to test and improve their skills within a legal and closed environment. These programs often require participants to search for digital “flags” within a system, requiring skill-based knowledge of computer forensics, cryptography, network penetration testing, and web security, to name a few.
Chiron’s version is based on the company’s proprietary “live-fire” training exercises conducted during all of its training courses to test participants on a range of skills and scenarios. The program was custom-built by the Chiron team and incorporates a unique pyramid structure never seen before in a CTF environment, with points awarded based on the difficulty of each scenario. The challenge will be hosted on a closed network for a maximum of 75 attendees at a time. Participation is based on a first-come, first-served basis.
In addition to the CTF Challenge, Chiron instructors Cole and Moulton will lead a presentation within the “Red Team” education track. Both are military veterans with more than 30 years of combined expertise in the cybersecurity space. Their presentation “Making Everything Old New Again” will focus on using Microsoft PowerShell during post-exploitation operations.
“Performance and ability are the most important factors when it comes to cybersecurity training. This is why we train our students to solve problems that appear in the real world, rather than to just pass a test. Our current live-fire exercises provide students with a unique opportunity to show what they can do in real-world situations, and this is exactly the experience we are creating with our Capture the Flag Challenge,” said David Pappas, President and Founder of Chiron. “It won’t be easy. We want participants to feel challenged, learn new skills and leave wanting more.”
For more information about the conference and to register, please visit the BSides Augusta 2015 website.
